n my own point of view, XAMPP is the best and the most easier way to get a local server on your personal machine and start working on PHP & MYSQL applications. However, LAMP (for linux users) and WAMP (for windows users) are another good choices for developers, but I don’t recommended use them for beginners.
The good thing about XAMPP is, it is free, easy to install, and no configuration is needed to make APACHE, PHP & MYSQL compatible with each other. All you need to do is to download it from the official website, from here
choose your package, download it, unzip it and install it on your local computer. Following these simple steps:
1- first you will get this window, choose your destination folder (where you want XAMPP to be installed) usually, I install it on C: drive, but it depends on where you want your folder be. And then press install to start the installation process.
2- your installation starts, just wait till it finishes (the installation depending on the speed of your computer).
3- now this window will appears, asking you if you want to add a shortcut to start menu and the desktop. The default answer is yes, so just press enter to continue.
4- next this window will appears, asking you about the path of XAMPP and the default answer is yes, so just press enter.
5- next another window will appear asking you if you want to make a portable XAMPP without a drive letter and the default answer is no, so also just press enter.
6- now this window will appear telling you that XAMPP is ready to use and just press return to continue.
7- this window will appear to tell you that the timezone has been set to the same timezone of your local computer in both php.ini and my.ini and if you want you can change it later. So just press return to continue.
8- finally, the installation about to be completed and XAMPP is ready to use, there are 7 choices to choose from what you want to do next. Usually I choose the choice 1 to start the XAMPP control panal.
9- so everything is done and you will see your XAMPP control panal, XAMPP icon will appear next your clock and if you checked your C: drive you can find a folder called XAMPP in it. by pressing on start next apache, apache will start working. And by pressing on start next mysql, then PHP & MYSQL will start working.
Now if you opened your browser and typed http://localhost then the XAMPP page starts, just choose your preferred language and open phpmyadmin to make sure everything is working fine.
10- to start running your php applications, save your php applications in your htdocs folder which it should be in this path C:\xampp\htdocs
There where you should put your php files or applications and you can run them by calling your files in browser after localhost. For example if you put a php file (test.php) in htdocs folder, then you should type this in the browser http://localhost/test.php
Now we are done, hope you founf this tutorial is useful, seeyas…
